Every day we are advancing how we communicate with one another. This planet in which we live on is a huge place but it has become easier and more convenient to communicate with one another. These advances in communication have helped us in our day to day personal lives and have radically changed the way we do business and even helped cut costs in the work place. Some have even gone as far as to claim that intercoms have even helped save lives in the workplace.
Take high energy platforms such as oil/gas rigs. These places can be very hostile and dangerous work environments due to the nature of the job that is performed. It would be in places such as this that intercoms could come in handy and even make the place much safer. Take for instance accidents and explosions on the rigs. If someone were to be injured you would have to run back to find help, leaving the injured party to fend for themselves. However with the use of an intercom on a rig platform you could just as easily call for help or even alert the rest of the workers that there has been a serious accident.
Not only can intercoms save lives in working environments such as oil/gas rigs, they can also save money and cut down costs. Imagine, less time spent needing to type up an announcement to hand out to everyone. You can update your employees verbally and all together. Intercoms are not just used for announcements it can work both ways and give platform workers a way to keep in touch with one another while on the job.
Now when one thinks of an intercom they usually imagine the ones that were used in school back in the day. The box affixed up by the ceiling on the side of the wall. In fact today intercoms have become much smaller and are eve wireless. These are called wireless and hands free intercoms. They are like walkie-talkies except they can be connected over a complete intercom network. This means that not only can other handsets pick up the broadcast made from one hand set but they can also transmit broadcasts over a wide speaker system. Wireless intercoms are rather cheap and easy to install and in a place like an oil/gas rig the less wires that you have running through the place the better.
